These conventions are customs or rules that are respected as a fundamental part of our constitution even though they are not currently enforceable by law. Dicey also explained that much of our constitution is based on convention. Many of the fundamental foundations of constitutional law are observed through conventions, many of which are considered to be of much greater importance than statutory control of the area. For example, the Queen has enormous powers but by convention she is obliged to use these powers only in accordance with ministerial advice.
